Did you know the third most famous Jersey boy after Bruce and Bon Jovi is KEVIN SMITH? We’re not sure if that’s totally true but it sure seems like it based on the number of Kevin Smith die hard movie fans that exist. Kevin Smith grew up in Highlands and filmed here, in Red Bank and Atlantic Highlands for his movies like Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and Jersey Girl.
Welcome to the Highlands Mural ~ Highlands. Right around the corner we spotted Kevin Smith himself on Miller Hill taking pictures of this gorgeous mural (that’s him posing for a pic for us) not once but twice. We even stopped the car to say hi and he was as gracious as can be!
Bahrs Landing/Moby's Parking Lot -Highlands. In Jersey Girl -Holden has a heart to heart with his Pop who gives him some tough love while street sweeping in front of this iconic restaurant - stop in for a beverage and some lobstah'.
Franny’s Pizza - Highlands. Jay worked at Franny’s predecessor Franceso’s and has been known to pop in for a slice. You may or may not see Jay when you visit, but you will definitely get great piece of ‘za while you are there. BYOB or call Franny's to deliver.
Quick Stop @58 Leonard Ave, Leonardo. The most iconic location is this still-standing convenience store where the now famous actor was actually working and filmed most of his breakthrough film, Clerks. But first, stop for a Taylor Ham (aka Pork Roll) Sandwich at Slater's Deli and grab a sweet drink to wash down all the salty deliciousness.
Kevin Smith owns Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands which is THE place to see movies, live shows, comedy, music and of course cult classics like Clerks which is always headlining. Before or after catching a flick at Smodcastle, head down the block for a sampler at Carton Brewery to fortify yourself for more touring.
Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash ~Red Bank. Stop by this comic book store Smith owns in Red Bank, popular for its quaint downtown shops and restaurants and home to many scenes he shot for his films. While following Silent Bob's footsteps in Red Bank, do what he would do and stop for a beer at Red Tank Brewing.
Jack's Music Shoppe -Red Bank. Right across the street from the comic book store is the music shop below the apartment Holden and Banky share in Smith’s sexy movie: Chasing Amy. Leaf through all the new records and come back and play them at the Beach Lodge’s record player!
